'Mana TV' was an initiative started in undivided Andhra Pradesh to provide programmes on distance education, telemedicine and agriculture extension under different channels. Then Andhra Pradesh government had entered into an agreement with ISRO in 2006. It was due for renewal in 2009. Telangana state was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
The Telangana government has now entered into a fresh agreement with ISRO in view of the rapid changes in technology. Following the agreement, Mana TV would offer better content on distance education, telemedicine and skill development by using satellite technology. The fresh agreement would also provide coaching to students appearing for State Public Service Commission examinations and entrance tests for admission into engineering, medicine and agriculture courses.

The MoU exchanged between representatives of ISRO’s Development and Education Communication Unit (DECU) and Telangana’s IT Department, in the presence of Minister for Information Technology K.T. Rama Rao, was towards allocation of 17 megahertz bandwidth for Softnet (Mana TV) on its GSAT-8 satellite, which facilitates telecast of four channels through MPEG-2 technology. Upgrading the technology to MPEG-4 will facilitate telecast of eight channels. Using the new satellite technology, Mana TV will telecast live classes or recorded coaching classes for Group-II candidates for four hours every day, which will also be kept available on YouTube. The classes will be telecast in two slots from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be repeated on holidays.
The aim will be to beam Mana TV through cable television network. Cable TV operators and MSOs for allocation of a slot for Mana TV coaching sessions for the benefit of rural unemployed youth. EAMCET coaching classes too. The satellite technology will also be used to launch digital classes in 6,000 government schools in the State from October 14 and the satellite technology would also be used for empowering women.
Another separate agreement will soon be signed with ISRO by the Ministry for Municipal Administration and Urban Development for recording the topography and contours of the city so as to take pre-emptive measures in the event of floods. The TSPSC will find a way to record the classroom sessions at SC, ST, BC, and minority study circles and telecast them through TV and YouTube for the benefit of rural candidates.
The live TV classes would help a majority of the aspirants. As the examinations are nearing, there will be 40-day crash course. Mana TV would also start classes for Eamcet students from this year. One hour programme for women for their health and other aspects would also be aired on Mana TV. Soon college-goers and students, who are preparing for competitive examinations, can enhance their knowledge with the help of state government-run ‘Mana TV’. The government has decided to overhaul the ‘Mana TV’ network to telecast English, Maths and Science lessons taught by professional teachers to students.
